As you may remember, in December I asked for help putting together the annual Ms. Claus’s Party Mix, the mixed tape project I started for my daughter when she was young. This year I bent my own rules a little. I presented her with two CDs, one of female-female duets (which was much harder to compile than I expected it to be), and one of men covering songs made famous by women. Usually these CDs only feature women’s singing voices. But she is a teenager and I’ve been doing this for a long time. Her feminism and sense of self worth is pretty firm these days. I figured letting the men have a turn was only fair. (Last year, the theme of the project was women covering songs made famous by men.)
Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I couldn’t do this every year without you. Below are the cuts that made it onto the CDs! (Results are not listed in the order I mixed them.)

Awesome list. Think my music library will be getting some new additions!
Pow! :)
Spotify playlists maybe? Or has that discussion been had before?
I actually made Spotify lists for the results last year and no one seemed to interested in them. But if there’s desire, I can certainly put it up.
aha! I remember lamenting last year because I didn’t have Spotify (I do now, whoop!). I would totally be interested (must go look up last year’s, too) but I know it’s a lot of work just for one person.
Its not too much work! And its the kind of nerdy screwing off I enjoy.
In that case I will listen the hell out of it whenever it is ready :)
I’m starry eyed right now.
Okay, did you ever see the SYTYCD performance where they used This Woman’s Work? It was probably one of my favorites ever. I think it was Mia Michaels choreography, and she was honoring her mother’s struggle with cancer and that shit was MOVING as all hell. YouTube it if you haven’t seen it.
And I am a little too pleased that you spelled lil’ Kim “Kym”. I’m in your head, Slay, I’m in your head!!! Mwahahahahaha!
This playlist is epic. I am off to iTunes. Your daughter is awesome, and she has such a badass for a mom.
I don’t remember if I did or not, but I believe you, because Mia is an amazing choreographer. I pretty much watch the show for her and Sonya.
And good call on the Kym, internet soul mate!
“Whatta Man” — I love that song.
