Crowdsourcing Lady Tunes 2012 ““ The Results

As you may remember, in December I asked for help putting together the annual Ms. Claus’s Party Mix, the mixed tape project I started for my daughter when she was young. This year I bent my own rules a little. I presented her with two CDs, one of female-female duets (which was much harder to compile than I expected it to be), and one of men covering songs made famous by women. Usually these CDs only feature women’s singing voices. But she is a teenager and I’ve been doing this for a long time. Her feminism and sense of self worth is pretty firm these days. I figured letting the men have a turn was only fair. (Last year, the theme of the project was women covering songs made famous by men.)

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I couldn’t do this every year without you. Below are the cuts that made it onto the CDs! (Results are not listed in the order I mixed them.)

Okay, did you ever see the SYTYCD performance where they used This Woman’s Work? It was probably one of my favorites ever. I think it was Mia Michaels choreography, and she was honoring her mother’s struggle with cancer and that shit was MOVING as all hell. YouTube it if you haven’t seen it.

And I am a little too pleased that you spelled lil’ Kim “Kym”. I’m in your head, Slay, I’m in your head!!! Mwahahahahaha!

This playlist is epic. I am off to iTunes. Your daughter is awesome, and she has such a badass for a mom.
