And another good morning to you, Persephone friends! We’re so glad you can join us for another day.
I don’t have any particularly thought-provoking thoughts for today’s Lunchtime Poll, because sometimes Thursdays are just like that; you’re just conserving your mental energy to reach the weekend. So let’s talk about an old standby – whatcha reading, Persephoneers?
I just put aside Girl on the Cliff because I found it awfully treacle-y. So now I’m working through Beautiful Darkness from the Beautiful Creatures trilogy and I’m feeling around for something else to trade off on. I like having a couple of books going at one time. Keeps my wandering eyes happy.

I’m slowly working my way through A Clash of Kings. I think I’m about 3/4 of the way through. I’m really loving the GoT books, but when there are slow parts, wow, do they ever drag.
I’ve been reading the Emperor of All Maladies. It’s okay? A little long. It’s very details and super interesting and tells you anything you might want to know about the clinical side of cancer. i’m sort of at the point where I’m skimming just so I can finish it.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, because I am way behind the trends even though I work in book publishing for a living. Who knew ethics standards for medical practice and research were so appalling even after WWII and the civil rights movement?
I read that a couple years ago and was appalled by what the Lacks family had gone through while Henrietta was ill as well as the years that followed. It was fascinating and heartbreaking.
JK Rowling’s “Casual Vacancy.” I know it’s gotten mixed reviews but so far, I like it. It’s quirky and light and entertaining and sometimes, that’s all I want out of a book.
I am working my way through Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky but I’ve put that aside to breeze through Anne Lamott’s Operating Instructions (which is half the length and much funnier).
I’ve fallen off the reading wagon and I need to fix that.
In other news, the last three days has been one big thunderstorm. I love rain, but seriously. It needs to stop.
