…sometimes. It’s not often one gets to say, “Holy crap, this came out so much better than I thought it would!”
When it does happen, though, it is a sweet, sweet feeling. Lately, I have been experimenting with homemade lotions and potions, and my first two finished products were unequivocal successes. No one was more surprised than me. One was a simple serum for moisturizing my face that I am completely in love with, and the other was a foot cream that puts Lotrimin to shame. (If anyone is interested, the secret to my success is the book Make Your Place.)
Do you ever amaze yourself? What have been some of your surprise successes?

The first time I made Thanksgiving dinner I was shocked that it turned out well. Actually, most of my “I can’t believe that worked!” moments revolve around trying a new recipe. I tend to assume any adventuresome cooking will end in disaster.
Considering that I am a chronic procrastinator, I’m amazed that I’m making headway on getting everything packed and cleaned for my moving back to the States next week.
Procrastinating on other things, well….
I amaze myself often. Especially when I work through my to-do list by 5PM.
It’s because you are just generally amazing. :)
I experimented with fudge a few weeks ago and the results have been very popular with the youth I work with at my church. When I made the first batch, I wasn’t impressed myself, but everyone who ate it thought it was delicious, so I keep making it for them!
It’s always weird to me when other people like something I’ve made more than I do. That’s when it’s hardest for me to accept a compliment.
Exactly! Usually for me, that means I’m thinking that they are only saying that they like it to make me feel better about myself!
