Are You “Ready for Love”?

My co-worker loves Giuliana & Bill, the Style Network program that stars ““ you guessed it ““ Giuliana and Bill Rancic. Since their reality show is on hiatus, she was thrilled to find out that they are hosting a new dating program, Ready for Love, on NBC. She told me all about it this morning, and I must say, I’m actually intrigued.

Three men ““ Tim (lead singer of the band Plain White T’s), Ben (CEO of a hospital) and Ernesto (philanthropist) ““ have decided that they are ready for love, and trust three matchmakers to find their soul mate. The matchmakers culled through thousands of applications, and each chose five women per contestant. The numbers will dwindle down with eliminations taking place every week, until one woman is left standing for each man.

According to my co-worker, the first episode was just about Tim getting to know the women by having conversations, going on dates, etc. One of the women is actually a friend of his that he’s known for years; she said she had been in love with him, but didn’t act on it because he was married (he blames his divorce on being away on tour all the time and not paying enough attention to his wife). He already is acting very protective over his friend, which might cause some friction, but does add an element of surprise to the show.

I never like watching dating programs, since I find them to be fake and cloying, but this one actually sounds it has a heart. I like the idea of people being chosen for the show not because they are loud and obnoxious and eager to cause drama, but because they are compatible with one of the contestants looking for love. According to my co-worker, the matchmakers are all actually decent people (unlike a certain Millionaire Matchmaker), and took their task seriously. Yes, it’s still a television show, but it isn’t causing a cynical reaction like so many others do; I think I might have to give it a shot.

Editor’s Note: This review on A/V Club is priceless.

As long as that compatibility includes, perfect teeth/hair/makeup/BMI and fashion sense.
