This week has been the worst. THE WORST. And it hasn’t gotten better.
A deadly blast at a fertilizer plant has devastated a small Texas town. NYTimes
Boston is on lockdown as a dragnet seeks suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. I wrote this at 11AM Easter, so forgive missing any important updates. NYTimes
The Senate acted like total assholes about gun control. Obama was (rightfully) pissed. And he minced no words. LATimes
Here’s some good news: the final night of BBC Proms (a giant classical music festival) is to be led by a female conductor for the first time in the event’s 118 year history. Classical music conducting, in case you didn’t know, is a good ol’ boys club. So this is awesome. BBC
More terrible, horrible news: Greek police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting and wounding of more than 20 migrant farmers at a strawberry farm. The shooting occurred because the workers, mostly Bangladeshi immigrants, were demanding to be paid. Al Jazeera

Yup, crazy week. I used to live in Boston, it’s bizarre seeing pictures of Kenmore Square empty.
Oh, and in Wales there’s a measles outbreak, one death so far (TBC by the pathologist), get your MMRs people!
The pictures of empty Boston are chilling, like the pre-Sandy pictures of empty New York were. Different reasons, obviously, but seeing places that are usually full of people deserted is creepy.
It’s creepy *being* in shut-down Boston. I actually live in Somerville, so we’re not technically under lockdown orders, but it’s still very quiet. The MBTA (public transit system) was and is entirely shut down, so I couldn’t go to work today, so I’ve been stewing inside listening to the radio all day. It’s really truly bizarre.
Stay safe! Our thoughts are with you and all our P-mag friends in the Boston area.
I’m so ..this is really a truth is stranger than fiction situation. All this happening and all this in one week.
