Lunchtime Poll

Lunchtime Poll: Familiarity or Novelty?

Are you a creature of habit or do you prefer to try new things whenever possible?

I’m totally a creature of habit. I realized while eating at my favorite Italian restaurant in town that I’ve ordered the same thing every single time we’ve gone there. I’m sure they have other meals that are just as good, but the chicken francese that I got on our first trip there was so good that I feel like it would be a waste of a trip to get something else and risk not liking at much. When I worked in the city I had to choose which bagel shop to go to for lunch based on what sandwich I was in the mood for, because at my usual place they’d start making my order as soon as I got in line because I ordered the same thing every time.

What about you? Do you go for novelty or just stick with what’s familiar?

After escaping the wilds of Waco, Texas and spending the next decade in NYC, she currently lives in upstate New York, where she misses being able to get decent pizza and Chinese takeout delivered to her house. She lost on Jeopardy.

I like having habits I can veer from because while I do need some routine, I rebel against it eventually. Like, I can bring the same boring lunch four days in a row but then once Friday hits I refuse to even consider it. And I like having a routine of taking care of errands during the week, but that’s so I can make my weekends as varied as possible.

On the other hand, just TRY to get me to order something besides pad see ew from my favorite Thai place. I will look at you like you’re insane.
