Awhile back another Persephoneer tried a couple of deep conditioning treatments with olive oil and mentioned that she might try coconut oil next. I’ve just started deep conditioning with coconut oil as of last week because of what I saw on the Cheap as F blog, and I wanted to report on my results.
I ended up going with Now brand coconut oil, mostly because it is very reasonably priced and because I’ve had a lot of good luck with their other products. I put about 3 tablespoons of oil in a microwaveable bowl and heated it for about two minutes. Then I slathered it in my hair, making sure to comb it through so it distributed evenly. I wrapped my hair up with a towel and let it be for an hour.
My hair tends to get dry at the ends, mostly because I wash it and heat style it nearly every day (I have to because it’s fine and gets oily), and also because of the dry winter weather. Let me tell you, after even an hour, miracles happened. The frizz was gone, and my hair felt very soft. Coconut oil is one of the only oils that actually penetrates the hair and moisturizes it.
You’re supposed to get really good results if you leave it in overnight and cover your hair with a shower cap, but I have yet to try it. I will have to do so, though, and will report on my results.
You can also use any brand of coconut oil. I just went with the one I liked.
