LTP: Prom Season!

A coworker came in the other morning and told us that her daughter had not yet returned from prom. It was 10 a.m. The daughter would return home by noon. Ah, youth!

Here are some (2005) prom facts about me:

  • I told my boyfriend at the time that I didn’t want to go with him because I would rather hang out with my friends. I don’t remember if he ended up going. (Yes, we went to the same school. Yes, we had the same circle of friends. Yes, we kept dating into college, but as you can see, I was not particularly attentive).
  • My prom location was super awesome and beautiful and was one of the mansion inspirationsĀ for The Great Gatsby. The best part of the night was trying to sneak out of the permitted space to take pictures.

Did you go to prom? Do you have fun prom or alterna-prom stories?

i had way more fun at the yearly semi-formals than I did at prom. I had planned on going with a friend at the time, but he ditched me two weeks before because he got back together with his gf. I found a date at the last minute, a friend of a friend who was in a similar situation. We must’ve looked like something else. I had an ivory satin dress with an embellished top and an empire waist (it was 1998). My date had a white tux with I think blue vest. We had planned our respective outfits to our previous dates, so we were a little clashy. I did go to a winter formal the first year of college and I had this lovely dark blue dress and my bf at the time wore his Navy dress uniform. Made up for the previous spring. I bet my mom still has pictures of that b/c she adored that boy.

I went to way too many proms, and only once with a boyfriend. All the rest were with friends. One year we had our prom at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which should have been awesome, but unfortunately, we got super high and stopped at Taco Bell to slake our munchies on the way down and we all ended up getting food poisoning, so I spent the majority of the prom itself puking in the bathroom. The pictures from that dance are hilarious. My date and I look absolutely miserable and green.

my school had two formal dances a year, one a winter formal and one a prom. i went to 6 out of 8 of them in high school begrudgingly. they always seemed to play the same 25 songs. and somehow you shook me all night long was one of them. seriously ac/dc?

I really only went to prom because a friend of mine had to cover it for the yearbook and she didn’t want to go alone (neither of us were dating anyone at the time). We took a cardboard standup of Capitain Kirk as our date, and all night long there were boys asking to dance with him. Afterward she came over to my house and we had a good ole fashion slumber party. Good times, good times.

-My date was gay (and utterly gorgeous in a kilt) which is why I suspect my parents were so laid back about the whole affair.
-The dress I wore was more expensive than my wedding dress.
-Aforementioned dress was incredible but bloody freezing when dashing from transport to beautiful old hotel since our senior dance was in December.

For junior prom I skipped with all my friends and went bowling. We wore my mom’s old bridesmaid dresses. Senior prom I went to with my then boyfriend, now husband. It was fun, we went on a boat. I don’t remember much except that my food was cold. Afterwards we went to a friend’s house and her parents made us breakfast.
