Lunchtime Poll: Family Vacations

To borrow a note from Monday’s open thread, tell us about your weirdest/craziest family vacations!

About this time last year, I was returning from my family’s vacation to five cities in four different countries in ten days. My parents decided if we were going to travel to Europe, we were going to travel to Europe. Similarly, as my brother and I have now reached that adult age where everyone now must take time off work, or rearrange schedules to travel as a family, this was quite an undertaking.

The trip itself was insane. We managed to arrive in Barcelona in time for a massive storm that knocked power out in many parts of the city. We arrived in Madrid in time to get caught in the crowds celebrating the Spanish national football team’s UEFA Euro Cup Championship. Lots of running to trains and airports. Lots of waiting. There was even a “let’s see if we can run to the Museo Nacional Centro de Reina Sofia while your brother and dad are still sleeping, wander for an hour, run back to the hotel, check out and then hop on a plane.”

Have you taken a crazy whirlwind trip with your family? Has someone (who shall remain nameless) been locked in a toilet? Did weather force you to rearrange your plans? How many city tours can you withstand? Share them below!
