I have been on a Beyoncé loop since the album came out a month ago.

Say what you will about BeyoncĂ© and her position on feminism, but to me her art exemplifies a feminist body of work. Aside from the well-produced songs, the messages in her music ring loud and clear about her position on the inequality among genders and the pressure to conform to society’s standards of Eurocentric beauty. My favorite song from her right now that has me feeling empowered is “Flawless.” Because, damn it, I WOKE UP LIKE DIS.
What’s your favorite empowerment song? What makes you feel like you can take over the world?

Lately anything by Sleater-Kinney has been my empowerment theme
Love Sleater-Kinney!
“Independence Day” by Melanie C. (of the Spice Girls). It’s so 90s and . . . nice.
