So you are out of work and need to find a new job. Or you have a job now, but it’s sucking the life force out of you faster than a Dementor.
I’m in the latter category. I have a job that pays my bills, but it’s inconsistent and boring and though I work from home, I need something a bit more steady. So, I’ve spent the last couple of weeks putting in serious effort to find a decent job with some kind of benefits. The exercise has proved….pretty futile as the pickings are slim and I’ve only had one interview. I feel my frustration and not insignificant despair can best be expressed in the language of our age: gifs and pictures.
How you feel the first day of job searching

Reformatting my resume like a boss
Please include a cover letter
Resume is newly formatted and pretty
Application website wants you to copy and paste resume into a plain text box
A few screens later, they ask for you to upload your resume
Websites that ask you to upload your resume and then fill out an application with all the information that is on your resume
Get a job interview
When you get there and it’s a bait and switch
Dad tells you to pound the pavement and knock on doors
When dad reminds you that you aren’t getting any younger
When you can’t look at another job site

I got two rejections for composer residencies ON CHRISTMAS EVE.
That’s just unnecessary.
All this. I remember it well… especially the parent comment parts…
How it feels when you finally get that call:
Love it!
8 applications in a month to try to move from current icky job. 2 interviews. Came 2nd twice. Aaaaargh!
This made me smile about it though, so… Well done you :)
I think getting so far in the process and NOT being hired is worse than hearing nothing. That really sucks, but I’m glad this made you smile :)
Or when you get daily messages from the local MLMs/commission-based insurance/scams, and literally NOTHING else.
I hate that! Hate it.
I’m just hoping grad school will work out and at least give me a break from working all the hours while trying to find a job with better money/hours/work.
How about the part where you get an email from Career Builder saying they’ve found a position that matches your resume and it’s for a janitor? Because I got that email today. I suggest…
I got one today that was for a long haul truck driver. I’d have added that to the list.
And getting a rejection email on a fucking Sunday!
Your gifs are awesome.
Why thank you!
I’m very new, so don’t know how to post my own gifs in comments. Otherwise, I would have had a good one for you.
You can attach an image by clicking under the comment box and selecting one from your harddrive.
And you usually have to click on them to make them animate in a new window.
HI!!!!!
Hey, Slay!!!
GT has spoiled me because l always just link gifs by URL instead of downloading them to my (work) hard drive. Hmmm.
