I thought I had done everything right. Heat set a bit higher, cabinets were left open, faucets left on a trickle for the last three or four days. What I hadn’t thought of was flushing the toilet every few hours through the night, and having the hot water trickle as well as the cold. So I woke up to no hot water and a frozen toilet.
Three hours in my crawlspace later (I wish we had options that included a basement when house shopping, but it’s not something that houses in my area have), I got the toilet flowing again. Yes, I did dance around all proud of myself. And then quickly shed my clothing because insulation is ITCHY! I still don’t have hot water, but that should be remedied tomorrow with some help of tools that throw more heat than my Conair blowdryer (and my dad).
So tell me folks, how is everyone faring with this awful cold spell? It’s supposed to “warm up,” in the next couple days, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

The toilet froze?! Yikes!
Scotland is being just plain weird at the moment. We have had one brief snow flurry this winter, but otherwise lots and lots and lots and lots of rain…
