Word of some remakes causes me to rend my garments and shake my balled fists at the sky in betrayal. Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic remake? Bring me all the box wine, the remote, and some powdered sugar doughnuts, please.
In celebration of this milestone pop culture event, we’re going to be re-reading V.C. Andrews’ (pre-ghostwriting army!) shlocky, gothic-like novel about pretty blonde children with terrible relatives.
Join us next week for a discussion of the first half of the book, followed by liveblogs of the 1987 movie featuring Kristy Swanson and Louise (Kai Wynn, Nurse Ratched) Fletcher, and the Lifetime remake later this month. You can catch the amazingly, unbelievably, still awesome original on Netflix Instant, if you want to play along.

Wow I didn’t even know there was a movie! (Irish terrestrial tv was all we had back then). I remember reading the book when I was about 12 and being…. confused? Let’s go with confused. So obviously I’m off to download this now.
Me either! Two-channel land FTW!
Though, given what I remember of the book, I’m not sure I want to see the film. That shit was… yikes.
Do I or don’t I..? It seems so gosh darn weird!
You DO! Because it’s so weird.
I had a thought yesterday that twenty years from now, some upstart at a ladyblog is going to be doing this same thing for 50 Shades, and it gave me a piss shiver.
Oh dear god.
