It’s Middlemarch Madness time.
If you’re new, Middlemarch Madness is our annual bracket competition for our favorite literary women. We divide the women into genres, young adult and adult; literary and sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and dystopia; for a total of four “regions.” YA literary fiction. YA sci-fi, fantasy, horror and dystopia. Adult literary fiction. Adult sci-fi, fantasy, horror and dystopia. We’ll be developing some acronyms for these shortly.
In previous years, we’ve eliminated women who’ve previously made the top four. This year, we’re only eliminating previous winners from eligibility. So you can vote for anyone except Hermione, Professor McGonagall, and Meg Murry.
But! We’re going to raise the stakes just a little this year. Someone in the Sweet Sixteen will be pulled and replaced by a Wild Card. The pulled character will be determined by how much support she receives in the comments. More support = better chance to stay in the game. There are a few other surprises in store to keep it fresh, and to keep our competitive spirit alive until one woman is left standing at the end.
Mwahahahaha.
Your homework: spend some time with your favorite books this weekend, and come back next week ready to wow us with your nominations. Do not post your nominations here! You can, however, start campaigning/electioneering for your OTC (one true character) in the comments.
