Want to watch a Bollywood movie, but not sure where to start? Check out this handy guides of cool movies you can watch on Netflix this weekend.
1. Jab We Met
Depressed businessman Aditya meets fast-talking Geet on a train and sparks fly. Flighty and impulsive, Geet seems to be a stereotypical manic pixie dream girl, out to save dour Aditya. Instead, the second half turns, focusing on her struggles. The pair reunites and instead of saving each other, they support each other.
2. Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola
This movie mixes politics and romance as only Bollywood can. Matru lives a double-life, working for local wealthy businessman Mandola and also leading the resistance against Matru’s business practices. Matru is also in love with Mandola’s spoiled daughter, Bijlee. Will Matru be able to save the village? Will Bijlee change her ways? How many pink cows are in this movie? (At least two.)
3. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
Not your typical romantic comedy, this movie once again asks the question, “Can men and women be friends?” Rahul and Riana are both struggling to make it in Las Vegas. Rahul chafes against his parents’ expectations while Riana is just trying to figure out what to do. Their friendship gets complicated by an accidental marriage (it is Vegas, after all).
4. Chennai Express
Not only one of the biggest movies of 2013, but one of the biggest Bollywood movies ever. Rahul, a bachelor in his early forties, tries to abide by his late grandfather’s wishes. . . while also taking some time for a vacation. At the train station, he meets Meena, learning too late that she is being kidnapped by her father’s men and being returned to her village for an unwanted marriage. Rahul tries to help her flee, and of course, the two end up falling for each other. But how will Meena escape her arranged marriage?
5. Rang de Basanti
British filmmaker Sue travels to India to produce a documentary about Indian revolutionaries from the 1920s. Over time, her actors become inspired by the revolutionaries, turning from carefree college boys into revolutionaries themselves. Keep the tissues handy for this one.
6. Raaz 3
A spooky horror movie about the nature of fame. Shanaya is worried about up-and-comer Sanjana, and so curses her. Sanjana must defeat her through the power of love. Creepy and sexy by turns.
7. I Hate Luv Storys
Jay is an assistant director famous for his love stories. Ironically, he hates them! Simran, who works on set, loves romances and wants her life to resemble one. And it does! She has a dream job and perfect fiance. As they work together, they develop feelings for each other. But will they be able to find their happy ending?
