5 Times Debbie Reynolds Was Amazing in “Singin’ in the Rain”

There is no end to the list of things I love about Singin’ in the Rain.

Here are five times Debbie Reynolds as Kathy Selden did something that I could never pull off.

  • The time she employed the grade school flirting tactic of making fun of and heckling a guy and actually successfully impressing him.

The look of love.
  • The time she jumped out of cake and impressed everyone at the party with her style and ability to not get covered in cake.

That’s more the expression I have on my face, when presented with cake (sans person inside the cake).
  • The time she managed to stand out while in a crowd of showgirls and kept dancing despite being slowly smothered by streamers.

She is amped by those flying streamers of death and distraction.
  • The time she looked absolutely stunning while perched on a ladder in an empty sound stage.

If this is what happens when you have good lighting, I am formally requesting that someone follow me around and properly light me all day every day.
  • The time relative newcomer held her own next to movie veterans, Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.

This involves eating her feelings, drowning in debt and mocking infomercials. She likes sociology so much that she has two degrees in it, and is still warding off her parents' questions about a real career.
