The Fat-Positive “Flawless” Video is a Thing of Beauty

I am completely here for fat remakes of Beyoncé videos.

Plus size fashion blogger Gabi of GABIFRESH styled and directed a remake of Beyoncé’s video for “***Flawless,” starring herself alongside fellow fatshionistas Tess Munster and Nadia Aboulhosn. It’s amazing.

I don’t have many complaints about the videos on the self-titled Beyoncé album, but the one little issue I have is that, for all her feminism, sex-positivity, and celebration of women, there wasn’t as much size representation as I’d have liked to see in her background people. Did she branch out away from the typical ultra-thin, pale white women normally seen in the public eye? Of course, but there was room for more. Enter Gabi, Tess, and Nadia.

Watching three women whose body types actually resemble my own dance and lip-sync and look just as sexy and flawless as Beyoncé is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve watched and re-watched this a few times since it was published, and I want to cry every time. There’s something truly magical about seeing big boobs, back rolls, and flabby arms moving without apology and with confidence channeled from Queen Bey herself.

As Gabi says on her blog,

“I wanted to show that 1) we are not competing to be the Top Dog in our niche—we are supportive of each other and are all working toward the same goal: body positivity and inclusivity. And 2) you don’t have to be a certain size to claim your flawlessness. Fat is not a flaw. This video is dedicated to the mainstream media, to the fashion industry, to internet bullies, and to anyone else who thinks it’s their right to try to make us feel less than because of their insecurities. #everyBODYisflawless

Watch it below, and happycry with me.
