This OT is Pouring One Out for Robin Williams

Depression is such a lying asshole.

This picture came across my Facebook feed last night and I was reduced to tears. For the passing of a talented man whose work had touched so many over the 40 years of his career. For the friends and family lost. For the close calls of loved ones. For the night spent staring at the pill bottle, thinking it would be so easy to just not exist.

Please, if you are struggling, reach out. There are resources, hotlines, friends, family. If anyone else has links to hotlines, warmlines, local resources, please share them in the comments.

Rest in peace, Mr. Williams, you will be missed.

I haven’t seen as many Robin Williams films as I should have by now, and some I’ve only seen once (One Hour Photo and Insomnia come to mind; phenomenal dramas), so I don’t have much to offer in the way of memorable quotes. But these are a few of my favourites from Mrs. Doubtfire:

“{yelling from kitchen} Oh no, dear, I don’t need a hand! {determined sotto voce} I need a -face-.”

“It’s an interior monologue, maybe even the voice of God, that’s even better. {booming} No, Pudgy, don’t smoke!”

“It was a run-by fruiting!”

And one from his stand-up:
“Is it just me, or are all cats drag queens? {pantomimes licking his “paw” and grooming his head} Who loves kitty? Who loves kitty? Are these your new shoes? Bleah! {pretends to vomit} {goes back to grooming} Who loves kitty?”
