It’s almost the end of January, which means if you’ve made resolutions for this year, you’re already looking at your life and your choices and realizing maybe you need to accept that some things will never change.
Let’s take a look at some of the top resolutions and where they were doomed to fail.
Lose Weight/Get Fit/Eat Healthy Food
Breaking Point: New Years’ Day, when you ordered greasy pizza or burgers to cure your NYE hangover.
Save Money/Manage Debt
Breaking Point: Did you go to college or graduate school in the past five-ten years?
Get a Better Education
Breaking Point: After seeing a news article about FAFSA applications, you googled the price of college in the U.S. or remembered that your GRE scores have expired.
Get a Better Job
Breaking Point: When you remembered that the act of finding a new job is arduous and often months long and requires the skills and secrecy of a covert spy operation.
Take a Trip/Travel More
Breaking Point: WAIT I’M ACTUALLY DOING THIS ONE. However, my trip will make sure that I won’t do a lot of those other things, like save money, or eat healthy, or drink less.
Manage Stress
Breaking Point: You realize you live in a major city and there is nothing that isn’t stressful.
Drink Less Alcohol
Breaking Point: First snowstorm of the year guarantees this is broken. Also how are you supposed to get through Awards Season?
Okay, maybe you have better luck with your resolutions than some people (i.e., me). Be well, drink more water, do what you need to do.

I’m doing ok on mine. Haven’t found a job yet, but I’ve been pretty diligent about checking internet listings almost every day, and I have an interview on Monday. (Assuming I don’t die driving in the snow to get there. Whimper.) I’ve definitely been writing more. Not having root beer with dinner has sucked, but I’ve been good about not buying any. (I had some one afternoon at Chuck E. Cheese, but that doesn’t count.)
And I’ve been crocheting a ton! I decided against the CAL that would have required sewing a ton of squares together at the end and instead am doing one that starts in the middle and works out to be huge in the end; I love it. Two weeks in and it’s already about 2′ across! Plus I’ve started trolling the testing boards on Ravelry and have gotten to try out several new patterns, which is fun, and have been going to the local yarn shop’s Saturday afternoon sit and knit parties when it hasn’t been too snowy.
Well, I am still keeping up with my Lottery Ticket Every Month resolution. And already won €7.50. Clearly I’m on my way to millionairedom.
(let’s not talk about real resolutions)
