I sometimes find there’s a lack of fiction written by and about my age range. The YA fiction genre is explosive, but while I enjoy a lot of it, I’m just beyond the age where I actually relate in a personal way to the characters and their stories.
A Discovery of Witches is one of those books that’s been making the rounds of recommendations, and shows up in airport book shops.
I was the nerd in the Metro last Friday night. No one could take the seat next to me save for the nine latest additions to my book collection, which were nestled neatly in a box intended for Xerox paper. (Appropriate, I thought.)
We’re just 48 hours away from knowing the winner of the inaugural run of Persephone Magazine’s Middlemarch Madness, and boy has it been a ride! I’m not sure if tonight’s results will have any surprises, but let’s click on and meet the winners anyway, shall we?
This one was down to the buzzer, readers, with one victor moving on to the Elite Eight by only two votes. You are not going to believe what happens after the cut today, ladyreaders.
One of last night’s races was so close, the leader changed fifty times. The other one, not so much. We’ve got two more inductees into the Elite Eight, two more ladies going home and another round of votes for you, after the cut.
Welcome back! It’s Monday, and we’re about to embark on a week of really harsh decisions. To make the pain of having to pick a little less, we’ll only be voting on two pairs each day this week, with the Elite Eight revealed on Friday. Next week, we’ll create the Final Four on Monday and […]
We’re well over halfway done with Middlemarch Madness. We’ve trimmed 48 brave, wonderful, badass women and young women from our original field, and now we’re down to the final sixteen contenders. They’ll face off next week, with two poll questions per day instead of our usual four.
Tonight we’ll decide the final four ladies who are moving on to the Sweet Sixteen, and it looks like it’s going to be another tough vote. Last night, we again beat our top number of voters, so I’m tickled that there are more and more of you coming out to support your favorite fictional ladies.
Persephoneers, I kind of don’t want to tell some of you how last night’s vote turned out. I am totally typing this while wearing a suit of bubble wrap, because I am afraid of how the results are going to go over. Remember, dear Persephoneers, there’s always next year. Also, killing the messenger is so […]
Here we are again, ready to add four new literary badasses into the Sweet Sixteen. Once again, I don’t think there will be any surprises, but some of the races were closer than I expected. Click on to find out last night’s winners and meet tonight’s batch of contestants.
We got so many votes this weekend! Everyone came out to pick their favorites, which is fantastic, even though most of you had the same favorites. As expected, there were few surprises among the ones v. sixteens, but you can see the results after the break anyway.
Welcome back! We’re about to tackle our last poll for the first round, on Monday we’ll begin knocking the final 32 into the Sweet Sixteen. I don’t know about y’all, but I am having so much fun with this I can hardly stand it. Last night’s voting wasn’t even close, in any category, so I’m […]
I’m beginning to see links back to Middlemarch all over the web, and it makes me geeky little heart grow three sizes. Bookish, clever women for the win! We’re back to vote in the second to last round of the preliminaries, tonight it’s the two seats v. the fifteen seats. Last night’s results are also […]
Last night was another record setter for votes, with many of you coming out to speak for your favorite lady heroines. I’m not sure there will be any surprises in the results, but I’d like the Pratchett fans to go ahead and sit down or get a bowl of comfort pudding or the like.
