TW: talk of size and weight (no numbers) “I hope no one thinks, ‘Why’d they let the big girl in?’”
In November of 1998, during my senior year in college, I embarked on a new diet. I called it “low carb with fruit.” I cut out a lot of foods, and like most diets, it started working in the beginning. Because I was losing weight, I stuck with the diet very carefully.
I am a young, healthy, able-bodied woman. I am also a recovering bulimic and anorexic and I have control issues when it comes to my body. Editor’s note: This post may contain material which may be triggering to those with disordered eating.
When I was 18 years old, I suffered from a mild eating disorder. I put my body through hell in an attempt to stay thin. I lived on diet coke, menthol cigarettes and diet pills.
