This Week in Lady Reads

Over the past week, there’s been quite a bit of coverage of Caitlyn Jenner, so we’ve found a few posts you can use to refute the ignorant haters. We’ve also got lots of good reads about feminism and other social justice topics, pop culture, a bit of science (with an unfortunate side of sexism), and some […]

The Porn of the Matter

Q. I have a blog on Tumblr and recently came across some very obscene material that was posted on a blog I had followed. I was shocked that this stuff was allowed. I searched further and quickly found gobs of pornographic sites. Again, I was shocked. Nobody is filtering this stuff or warning us about it.

Takedown: Press 1 for English

This week’s crapdate is a sleeper hit. I have seen the sentiment floating around for, well, probably for as long as there have been Internet memes. It’s the ol’ “I hate pressing buttons” problem.

Dr. Susan vs. Dr. Laura: Why do I give so much?

This week, Dr. Laura’s advice is not terrible, but her psychoanalysis is. Let’s take a look, shall we? This is from her youtube channel. The question: “I’ve taken it upon myself since day one of my relationship to do everything for my boyfriend, and now have found that I’ve put myself into a bad position, […]

Dr. Susan vs. Dr. Laura: Should I weep for future generations?

Dr. Susan vs. Dr. Laura: Where have all the realllll men gone?

It appears that Dr. Laura is off racing a sailboat and so hasn’t updated her YouTube channel (from which I generally get her transcripts). This is particularly hilarious to me, given the history of women sailors, the fact that for a long time the only way to sail as a woman was to dress as […]

Dr. Susan vs. Dr. Laura: Why can’t we go back to the good old days? AKA: Feminism causes date rape.

[Trigger warning for discussion of rape.] Do not click to open this unless you are prepared to get really, really angry. It’s bad, guys. The following was taken from Dr. Laura’s website. Have questions you want somebody that isn’t Dr. Laura to answer? Ask me! The question: “Should I have a conversation with my 29-year-old daughter regarding […]

Dirt In the Skirt: A League of Their Own

What with all the talk this week about early feminist heroes, I thought I’d chime in with my own story. My early experience with feminism wasn’t through a person; rather, it was the movie A League of Their Own.

How Much Is That Havarti in the Window?: Eating on a Budget Kind of Sucks

I like to do things in my life the wrong way.  Recently I went from being a pencil skirt and blazer-wearing, reasonably respectable member of the business community (no, really, I worked at the Chamber of Commerce) with a full time paycheck to a jeggings-wearing, hippie college student (in Art History of all the lucrative […]
