Happy Friday, everyone! Bit of a short and sweet(?) News Bites this week, but I think we need that now and again. Let’s get started:
Happy Friday, everyone. We’re catching up on two weeks’ worth of news stories today, so let’s get started, and you can get a nice, shiny sense of somewhat informed accomplishment.
Hello, unicorns! How are we doing this week, in this world without David Bowie? Let’s catch up on some of this week’s interesting news stories…
This week, this beginning of Pride month, these past few days… I wish I could say I am heartened by the ongoing discussion of human rights and LGBTQ issues, but I’m tired. I’m tired and I’m disheartened, and there is so much more work to be done. Let’s just get to the news and end […]
Greetings, Persephoneers. We have a varied roundup of news stories this week, but still quite a bit about police misconduct. Let’s get started, and we’ll end on an up-note, I promise.
Can we all go move to an island somewhere or something? Because the next two years with Republicans running the House and Senate are NOT looking fun. And it was a week of shitstorms and terrible people and all kinds of other assorted fuckery. Fun times! (As usual, trigger warnings for pretty much everything apply.)
We’re a bit more entertainment-skewed this week, partially because my hackles are still raised from last week’s WTF-ery. First, the non-entertainment stuff:
Raise your hand if you’re mad as hell at the Supreme Court right about now. Yup, thought so. To find out who else you should be mad at this week, let’s take a look at the rest of the news. (As usual, trigger warnings for pretty much everything apply.)
It’s been a banner week at the Washington Post; they’ve earned top billing this week for publishing George Will’s latest inanity (though the New York Post has equal blame for that one) and an article that used completely irrelevant data to victim-blame single moms who are abused. Good job, assholes. Let’s see who else is keeping them […]
My Obsession with March Madness
For many, March feels like a sleeper month, but for me, it is electrifying. March contains one of the funnest sporting events of the year, NCAA March Madness. This single elimination tournament has spurred so many different copycats, including the best copycat, Persephone’s own Middlemarch Madness. What is more fun than having an actual winner […]
So many people were truly terrible this week, but we’ve got a few awesome people to try to balance them out. And if you somehow missed the worst Photoshop ever, you’re gonna love this week’s TWiM! (As usual, trigger warnings for pretty much everything apply.)
There’s a wee bit of good news mixed with the bad this week, along with a couple of year-in-reviews of 2013’s top moments in feminism and misogyny. (As usual, trigger warnings for pretty much everything apply.)
It’s misogyny time! We’ve got one victory in the abortion-rights fight (but more bad news), a fantastic Twitter hashtag in response to a horrible “motivational” speaker, Fox News idiocy, and the best Beastie Boys cover ever!
While it’s heartening to see marriage equality and other similar matters experiencing an avalanche-like amount of progress, I wish I could give you all an entirely happy news roundup again this week. Unfortunately, too much has happened that must be shared.
End of the Week News: Well Thank Goodness
Welcome back, muffins, kittens, poodles, and the rest of you end-of-the-week seekers.
