Free Pussy Riot! Sounds like a headline for a Craigslist ad, right? Not quite. It’s actually a call to action in support of a feminist, post-punk band from Russia, aptly named Pussy Riot. Referring to them as a “punk band” is kind of an understatement. They’re more of a political movement.
A few weeks ago I wrote a piece about the Russian feminist punks Pussy Riot, who have been arrested on charges of “hooliganism” for their “punk prayer” protest in Moscow. With their trial date approaching, more and more protests and benefits are being planned around the world (like this one).
Just last week, three alleged members of the Russian feminist punk collective Pussy Riot were denied bail when a judge extended their incarceration until June.
